Koto Performance Reflection|Music

At the Koto night, us the 7th graders performed a song called ‘OKOTO’ written by Sawai Hikaru. We have practiced for few months and now I want to reflect on the work I did for this piece.

When I first started to practice the piece, I thought it was a very easy piece to remember, since the first movement was pretty slow and had some simple patterns that repeated along the piece. Then when I tried playing with the koto 2, I thought it was very hard piece to play, since you have to match and synchronize with koto 2 to play the piece. What really helped me when I was practicing alone, was the recording of Sawai Hikaru playing OKOTO. That recording gave me the whole melody of the song with koto 1 and koto 2 combined, and helped me out to synchronize with the koto 2 when practicing together. Thanks to the recording, I was able to play well together with koto 2. Some parts that I can improve is the speed and the tempo I play. Because I listen to the recording a lot, I started to practice play faster than we were supposed to. This I believe caused to speed up the tempo of the whole piece, since I played it fast and the people behind me tried to follow, since I was up at the front. For next time to improve, I will use metronome to keep my pace steady, and when I play, I will always count in my head and not just go with the flow.

Memorizing was for me pretty easy, since ‘OKOTO’ had a lot of repetitive patterns. The patterns were very unique and I was able to memorize all the patterns quickly. One problem I had with memorizing was that it took me a while to know what pattern comes after one. Even if I knew all the patterns, If I don’t know where I need to play them, that does not mean I memorized it. After memorizing the piece, I still made some mistakes since I sometimes forgot what pattern is going to come up next.

In the actual performance, I think we played it confidently and clearly. Some parts we didn’t come into together which made it sound bit unorganized, but when both koto parts were playing, we were very organized and synchronized well and able to play the piece confidently and clearly. I thought everyone playing confidently was a great success, since some parts I made some mistakes by playing the wrong note, but the other students in koto 1 was able to cover up the sound since they were loud and clear. We could’ve worked more on the dynamics, since some parts we forgot about them. I think I should always take notes of the crescendo and decrescendo, so I won’t forget. In the end I forgot to come in, which I thought it was the biggest mistake for me. Since all the koto 1 players were looking at me, they didn’t come in either. I reconsidered that being in the front is a great responsibility and If don’t come in right, no one will, since they are all waiting for me to play. But even though I made that mistake, I was able to go back in quickly without panicking  and we smoothly went back together. Overall I think we did a good job of playing the piece, organizing, and our cooperation to play the piece beautifully.

1812 Overture|Music

Hellow.
In music class, we each chose a piano song and changed it so we can play it on koto. I chose a part of the song by Tchaikovsky called 1812 Overture.

While arranging the music, I didn’t really come across some problems when making the tuning for the koto. My tuning had no flats or sharps, which made it easier to fit all the notes into the 13 strings. It was had to play when I had a half rest at the very first part, so I used the left hand to fill the rest so I don’t have to count for every rest.

Although my piece had repeating patterns, most of them were disjunct so I had problems with fingers and if I can reach them on time. For example at the fifth measure, when it goes down, its conjunct but, at the sixth measure the part it goes down is disjunct. This might easy to play in the piano, but skipping one string is pretty hard since I was playing that part with the middle finger and I have to play and skip a string smoothy to keep it on rhythm.

The last problem I had is the left hand. The original piece had a lot of parts left and I thought it was too hard to keep up so I gave up and decided to create it on my own. I first tried it out with 1 and 5, which is often used for 合わせ爪 in koto. But it didn’t sound right since the tuning were different. Then I tried 1 and 4, since the melody starts with 8 then 11, and 8 and 11 has 4 notes away, same with 1 and 4. It sounded pretty well and I thought it created a harmony so I used it.

It was my first time rearranging a music piece into a koto piece and I had a lot of fun doing it. Maybe next time I will try to add more of the left hand to make my song more fancy. I will practice more so I can play it without mistaking or stopping.

Jupiter Focus Area | Music

Hello, heres a video of me playing one of the part from ‘Jupiter’

This part was one of the hard parts in Jupiter. This part is slow, but it has a lot of moving fingers across the strings and it was pretty hard to play it smoothly. Like on the last 2 measures, I had to get ready for the next one while playing and I kept on missing the strings. Now I improved a lot since I couldn’t even play those lines but now I even memorized it. I also got better at keeping rhythm, by counting in my head every beat which helps me a lot. One part I can improve is the press. I have to press not too strong because its a weak press, but also I have to press until you can’t hear the sound so you won’t hear the weird sound.

Print making Reflection: final project |Art

Hello.
During this past 6 weeks we have been working on print making. What we did is we first made a pattern that can be repeated, and then copy it on to a plate, then carving the plate with carving knifes.

For my pattern the flowers and drops design are from native american and the reason I used those motifs is because I thought the native american patterns were very creative because it looked like a drawing than a pattern so I added drops and flowers to make it look like a drawing. Also the way the pattern is mostly repeated horizontally, I got that idea from aztec pattern because the aztec pattern was organized even though there were a lot of motifs. By adding that, my pattern is more symmetrical and more organized.

The most difficult part was carving. I was scared if i’m going to make mistakes and cut my finger or my plate. Also I had some parts which was very detailed and it was very hard to carve without mistaking and I had to be very careful with the edges because if I mistake one part, my pattern won’t be continuous.

How I solved it was practicing and using different size of carving knife. For some parts where it was mostly negative space, I used size 3 or more so I can carve faster and parts it was detailed, I used size 2 or 1 so I can carve small parts. Also I did a method where I carved the outline first with size 1 and then carved the outer part with size 2 or 3. I don’t know if this really helped me or not, but It made it easier to see where the patterns are and where to carve. For the edges, I used rulers and estimated so I can get the pattern to be repeating.

One thing I learned during this unit is to use the time efficiently. We were supposed to have 10 weeks for this project, but we only had around 6 weeks and we also missed some so we only had a half of what it was first. I went to the art studio before class for carving my plates and I think that really helped me to finish my pattern fast. I have to be careful with due dates and I really want to finish these projects, I have to work hard every time so I can finish this in good quality.

Express yourself portrait painting reflection|Art

Good morning, good after noon, good evening. I don’t even care anymore. ヾ(‥〃)ノ

We are almost finishing our unit for art, “Express yourself”. We are focusing if and how we can express ourself with portrait. We did different activities like writing about yourself and let other person draw you from what you wrote, or we researched about our favorite artists and how they express.

My artwork is called “Hello me.” I chose that title because the portrait looks like a portrait of myself hanging from a wall. The title is from the perspective of myself looking at the portrait. You can see how i’m very expressive and excited I am in the portrait even though the mouth, is sealed.

There are 3 types of portrait. You can be social and show how you communicate to the world or you can be aesthetic which shows your beauty or you can be political and show your self having the power and taking control. I chose my portrait being social because I wanted to express who I am and I thought social fitted the most for my idea.

I focused on color and background. The 2 basic color I used it red and green. Red for the face and hair and green for the background of the portrait in the portrait. I thought these two will contrast well and give a strong vivid color to express my art. It was hard to make my painting not be like christmas color so to not be like that, I used some tints and shade color to not use the vivid red or green. I am proud of my background, I tried to make the brown part look like a wood texture and inside the green background you can see those Japanese manga words kind of camouflaging.

I honestly didn’t know how the portrait will become in the end since I kept on changing small things. Like for example the mask; I wasn’t planning to add that until the last minute just because I thought it will look cool. I was just experimenting with the brushes and the colors and it ended up different than I expected but I am very satisfied with it. I experimented a lot on the brushes with the jacket like for example the jackets dripping down the painting. I first was thinking to make it like realistic paint drips but then as I worked on my painting I thought of actually use the brush texture and create a drip using the dry paint brush to show the texture. I had a lot of fun experimenting with the brushes like for the X on the mask, I made it so when it starts the the paint is there but as you go the paint brush runs out of paint and it makes a dry texture and I thought that was really cool. But, experimenting with colors and brushes caused some problems like that I always made mistakes so I had to dry it and re-paint the parts and some parts were messy since I couldn’t cover up the mistakes properly.

I could’ve worked more on the shades since they not visible too much and I was going to make it look like its pooping out from the painting. Next time I should add shades on the background too, not only for faces and hair.

~TUTORIAL plan reflection~| Tech

Hello.

I want to talk about storyboard and plans because I feel like it.
Lets go.

I think my storyboard meets more than 3 of our class criteria and here is some of them-
John: “Woah woah woah, hold on. Whats class criteria? Does it taste good?
….If you’re just like John, this is the class criteria.

Back to topic, my storyboard meets more than 3 of our class criteria and here is some of them:

First off my storyboard have tips and trick for the audience to understand the step more clearer and get better at doing the step or the tips and tricks help the audience to complete the step. Tips and trick also help you understand hard complicated steps. Also I use labels to show the tips and trick on the screen to show what i’m saying and it also gets attention.

My storyboard also tell which music I will be using for my tutorial video. I think music is a important thing to have in any kind of video because it is boring to watch a video with just you speaking. Adding music can make your tutorial more fun and interesting and also when you have a part where you don’t talk, instead of having a awkward silence you can add a music and make your video more enjoyable for the audience. I also I chose a music which is a creative commons because if its not creative commons, you can’t use it. The music I chose fits the theme of my tutorial a lot and also the music is not from iMovie or GarageBand and this makes your tutorial look more professional.

♪イェーイ ヾ(≧ー≦)ゞ ヾ(_ _)〃 ヾ(≧ー≦)ゞ ヾ(_ _)〃イェーイ♪ My jam for my bread

Theres a lot of other things my storyboard has, but the most important one that makes my tutorial a great tutorial is that my tutorial video has clear steps. If you don’t have a clear steps, it would be hard for the audience to figure out what you are doing and the audience did not come to your video to figure out what you are doing, they came to learn something. I separated my tutorial into 3 steps and to I added some details using tips and tricks. I think that is a good thing because if you have too many steps, its hard to follow and the audience might confused. Also I used labels to show the steps and what we will do on the screens so it will be helpful for audience that listen to the audio and by adding the label, it gets the audiences attention and make them more interested.

Moi story board ( ◔ ౪ ◔)☝

I have a good confidence that my tutorial will be a good one for the audience to watch and learn because I use pictures and fun drawings to catch peoples attention and It makes my tutorial a fun video to watch and it keeps the audiences attention until the end because you don’t want your audience to stop watching half way through. Another thing is that I labels to show the steps and tips & tricks. This really helps the audience to understand better because I think the audience might not listen to the audio (voice over) and they might miss a important step or advices. But if you add words on the screens it makes the audience read and it can help them to understand more clearly. This can help them complete some hard steps too.

information (script) available for public disclosure

I think to make my tutorial better and better I should practice more and more so I won’t make much mistakes on the real one and if you don’t make mistakes the audience wont get confused of what you are saying. Also you don’t have to try again and again all the time and waste our time.

Friend: Are you meeting the deadline? Me: Uh-yeah! Totally! Friend: Are you even using your timeline plan? Me: …Yes ∑d(‘・ω・`;;;;)

I am very excited to make my own tutorial and I hope I can make a good tutorial that everyone can enjoy and learn easily. I hope you stay tuned for the tutorial video, I will upload it on my youtube channel.

Bye.

Create Reflection

Hey there. Hows it goin’? Since I can’t hear you, I will leave two respond. Feeling good? Yeah greaaaat! Feeling bad? Aww too bad, I don’t care.

Today I will be talking about my blog and how I made it perfect. Also I will be talking about whats good and whats bad about my blog. So lets get started!

Im very satisfied with my blog and I really think its organized but colorful. Simple but exciting. I think my menu is easy to understand for my audience so I can navigate to my pages or my categories and not get lost in this small yet large thing called internet.

What I really like about my blog is my header. It really shows me and my passion and what I like.

W-wait. What? No, not this one, the OTHER one!
….Steven? The other one!
Steven. STEVEN. The other one.
Are you kidding me? Steven, the other header.
Steven. Your’e my manager. You know my new header right?
….You don’t know? What!? This is unacceptable. Your’e fired.

Oh yeah, sorry I got distracted. What your asking me? Who’s Steven? Well my curious friend, he’s my imaginary manager that will never exist because I don’t have any manager. I wish I did…
Let me get my NEW header before I get distracted again.

[Insert magical spell here]
Ah, better. This is my new header. It really shows my passion and what I like more than the old one. Im really proud of it and I think it attracts more people’s eye because its colorful or someone has the same interest and reads my posts.

The only thing I don’t like about my header is the one teeeeenie tiny I made.
I…. I got the size wrong. It you look at my blog, the header is enormous. I can’t do anything since if I make it smaller it looks weird and if I stretch it out, it will look squashed. And I can draw this again but thats just a waste of my very-useful-but-useless time.

Again, I really think my blog looks awesome and I really like how it turned out, It turned out GREAT. I will add more widgets pages and others to make my blog better.

Anyways see you in the next post and remember always that if the shoe were on the other foot you would walk away awkwardly.

-Reina.
