Expedition Reflection

My Expedition to Niigata had a lot of elements of wilderness engagement. My group and I learnt how to camp in the wilderness in low temperatures, Hiking Skills and Leadership skills such as route decisions based on morale, energy level and weather. We managed to think of creative solutions to problems such as using a rope we found in a tree to create a tether while climbing up a very steep part of the trail. While at the campsite we decided on places for tenting based on comfort and safety. Resilience was a very important skill for all of us, as there were many uncomfortable situations and events. We also spent some of our time trying to clean up parts of the trail. This trip encouraged us all to think positively about the wilderness and advocate for protection of the environment and think about sustainability and how to motivate our friends and family to understand the magnitude of environmental damage going on and how they can make a difference to save the environment.
