In Design class we have been working on our tutorial and making it better by editing the last final touches. I think my finished tutorial was good. 1 thing I learned while researching tutorials and making my tutorial was thats its so much easier with subtitles if you’re not talking or if your doing something that you can do indoors like how to make popsicle stick house or anything like that!
Connect:Before we created our tutorials we had to think of the features that would be the most important in our tutorial, for me the subtitles were important, the cropping, zooming in/out, fast forward/slow motion, step by step of course, and not to move the camera so much while recording, unfortunately it happened :(. You need subtitles if they think your going to fast they read it, cropping because I took the video with my iPod and I took it landscape so when I imported it to my laptop it was too small so I made it bigger, zooming because if you’re making something out of origami and you want to show a fold or plead it’ll be better to zoom, fast forward/slow motion because if something you’re doing is going to take a long time like peeling potatoes or doing the same folds over and over again etc, step by step because its easier to understand, and not moving the camera to much while recording because it will be hard for the audience to see while you’re shaking so much. I think I met most of my specifications except inspiring and giving ideas and introduction because my introduction wasn’t so detailed and fancy or something new that other people thought of. For my video instead of a clip I put a photo because my balloons kept on popping so what I did was I took a picture, made it bigger, and wrote subtitles for what to do. I did change things on my tutorial instead of copying the storyboard. Somehow taking retakes actually helped me because when I showed what would happen if the chocolate was too hot, the retake helped because the balloon would pop and that was the clip I needed! 🙂
Extend: When I was giving a few tips on how to make it better I gave some topping and what kind of chocolate to use ideas sort of thing. An idea that pushed me to make my video better was watching the video I was inspired by and other videos that are on the same topic because you know nobody can have the same tutorial.
I learned how to bake potato chips of course and I also learned what her important features were, as well as what she changed during the tutorial.
Challenge: I don’t have so many questions because I think I did pretty well also nothing is challenging for me anymore because I have gotten more confident of myself and learned more!! Actually i think there has to be at least 1 thing challenging for me and that is doing this reflection. Na! Just Kidding! My tutorial was going fine until i accedentlly made a few mistakes somehow my entire tutorial went kaboom AHAHA it switched places so i had to put all my clips back in order then after I finished that i took a tiny break and it happened again that was really frustrating for me. When I had to share my tutorial or
I enjoyed making my video and editing it I also asked a few friends how they thought of it even a few teachers to get there feedback. something i want to improve on is getting used to iMovie, trying new things, making my tutorial different from others, introductions (future tutorials), and using different techniques & a pattern of how to make the tutorial.
Here’s My Tutorial:
What we have been learning and doing so far in design class is making a storyboard. A storyboard is before a movie or tutorial we plan out what the movie or tutorial is going to look like (I will be posting my storyboard below). We’ve also been learning design specifications that means what we want in our tutorial and again you can see mine below. What I think is interesting is how to use iMovie I haven’t ever used iMovie but I think I got better at it. I think that I will get used to iMovie by the time I film my tutorial!
I think I met my design specifications from the storyboard by the introduction, credits, and step by step. I think so because on my storyboard we had boxes so thats why I was step by step also when I film my video i’ll try to be step by step. for the credits I clearly put a box of all the credits like the music, idea e.t.c. I think i didn’t meet the introduction SO much because It was too simple in my opinion it just shows a picture of it and words to describe it. I might be changing it a little in my actual tutorial!.
I think the key features of my tutorial are:
Simple introduction and different from others
All materials are listed
How long you have to wait 2 days or 2 minutes
Step by step
I think my tutorial is going to be a good one because it is different from others that are published on youtube or anywhere else. Also I won’t be speaking in my tutorial. I also think my tutorial is good because it won’t be SO long others even though they have the same idea or topic they might take 20 minutes and mine takes about 8 minutes. I am not to sure but i might make or change the music so i can personalize it. the most important step in my tutorial would be the materials and how to do the main twisting and pinching.
I need to learn a few more tricks to use iMovie like I said I am new to it! We should also learn how to film up close because if none can help you film your tutorial then it will be hard to close up when you are making something. For what we are doing right now, I think we should learn how to add more transitions or import something into iMovie (only if you can).
What I enjoyed was exploring iMovie because I got to learn something new! what I want to improve on is getting myself more organized and getting things on time because sometimes things don’t workout for me. What I want to learn next is how to use garageband or keynote, one of them!!
What we have been doing so far is watching tutorials on whatever we want and researching about them like what’s helpful or not. We have also been looking at other people’s tutorials that are on their blogs in our school. I think the most interesting thing we did was homework, not just plain homework of course but homework on commenting on other peoples blogs i really liked that because we could compare our tutorial to theirs and we got to know what their favourite and least favourite tutorials are! We have learned a lot of things, really a lot in just a few days. Like i explained we have been learning about tutorials and I think I might as well put a list of what I learned.
Here we go…
You should be clear and loud so the watcher can understand,
you should put translations if your only speaking 1 language
if you’re baking something you should introduce what you are going to make and show a picture of it first.
You could give ideas and tell everyone who inspired you to do it.
Guys I have too much to say!
I think we should make tutorials because you can give ideas to people and show how knowledgeable you are and you can help people with homework or improving on something. Actually tutorials can solve a lot of things like i said they help you with homework, they can help you create something new like a blog or a website, tutorials can teach you music, they can teach you how to draw, they can teach you how to dance and sing or learn a new language, they can teach you how to play games or unbox something and see if it really works (Here’s a link to something). Tutorials can even give you tips or guide you through doing something new.
I think a few key learnings were to have a step by step tutorials and not to have it go too fast. Actually i’ll make a list like before:
To be clear and loud
Maybe not to have HD quality but something clear to see
Give idea’s and credit to the idea’s YOU used
Say if it better to use this or that. (especially baking something)
Have some editing but not too much so the watcher gets confused
Don’t put music if you’re a quiet person because the watcher won’t be able to understand you at all.
List the ingredients or materials that are needed.
Stay focused, don’t lose track!
I think that you should have a clear and loud voice so then the watcher understands you. Make sure your video is clear or else the watcher won’t be able to see what your doing. It good to give credit so if the person who you gave credit to watched your video then she/he might comment or do something good. It will be better to list the ingredients so the watcher can find or buy what you need.
On my tutorial I think I should speak instead of just putting subtitles because it helps the watcher understand. If I ever have to fast forward I will put some music maybe. I will even put a link or say who inspired me to make the tutorial. I will of course need to do my tutorial step by step and stay on track. Also because its better to have it, I will put a picture or tell what I will be making for my tutorial. Before I start making whatever I need to, say for example a cake, I will tell all the ingredients and tools to make a cake. In some tutorials I have seen that the speaker is going faster than what she/he is doing and i will make sure I don’t do something like that.
I enjoyed researching tutorials and finding out or comparing what’s good and bad. what i want to learn next is how to make a survey for your tutorial so then other people can tell how you did on the video. I want to improve on doing more tutorial research because i think if we have more time to look and compare tutorials we can make the best tutorials.
Now that Ms. Cofino already taught us how to embed a video I am going to embed my research!
Hope You Enjoy…
My Favourite/Least Tutorial
Sara’s Blog 🙂 Wenyu’s Blog 🙂
Today I will share my favourite tutorial with you! Both of these look really YUMMY!!
He showed and said how many grams or litres of whatever at the beginning and he also showed the finished product!
Its good because the watcher will know how many of grams there are or how many litres of ingredients.
he had a very clear voice and showed the ingredients on the side inside a box on the video.
- so the watcher can understand and incase they forget the ingredients they can see all the time.
I think he kept on saying the same word over and over again (beautiful).
It annoys the watcher sometimes because it sounds kind of like him saying that he’s made the best cake ever, maybe not exactly
- he didn’t Say what is going to be helpful for the cake tin/pan or anything else
4. So the audience can buy things they need or use foil, wax paper or any other material.
Least: Chocolate Lava cake dessert:
She showed how the finished product is going to look like or is going to be similar to it.
So then the watcher or audience knows what they’re going to make or that what they thought it was going to be is right or wrong.
- She gave ideas for toppings and stuff like white chocolate, nuts, pistachio.
So then the watcher or audience can get an idea of what they could add to another recipe or make desserts more fancy!
She didn’t say or write the ingredients and how much you needed before she started to make it.
it wasn’t so helpful because you need to know how much sugar you need to put or flour or what temperature you need to put the oven on.
She didn’t stay on topic and she went on and talked about chocolate truffles while she was making Chocolate Lava Cake Dessert.
- It wasn’t so helpful because you might think that shes going to make ruffles with the dessert but you don’t want to.
I learned that you should always think before you post anything, don’t post a photo of someone if they don’t want you to! I learned that you should always give credit to people. I also learned how to change my theme and my background and header by clicking Dashboard, Customize or Header. I learned to use photoshop to make a header image so you can personalize your header. I also learned that everyone has a different opinions on different posts and it may be offensive to someone.
I learned how to put videos and pictures on my blog post. if you want to put photos on your post then click media and you can choose if you want it from your desktop or documents.
If you want to put videos on your post from Youtube then go to your video scroll down click share,
then on top it will say embed, click it. Copy and paste the code onto your blog post but before you do that go to text on your post. Paste it there and you’re done!
I found out that now you should use creative commons and not google images because some people don’t want people to use them maybe just view or you can give credit on anything but I still prefer Creative Commons. ( Theres a video about CC search on my blog! )
How to make a Widget!
First you go to abowman then pick your favourite widget. Then go to edit settings and you can choose how many animals you want the colour and more!
After your done that, you go to your blog open up your widgets page (same picture thats above) then you go to the very bottom and click “Text”. Go back to the abowman page and copy the embed code ( you’ll see something that says sidebar footer sidebar and more. If you want in on the side of your blog then click sidebar if you want it on the very bottom of your blog click footer sidebar.) You click add widget, then scroll back down and you can name your title what ever you want then paste the embed code onto to the blank spot and click SAVE and there you’re done!!
In design we have doing lots of thing on Creating the Solution we’ve been doing thing’s like creating a custom header and learning how to show your personality in one simple design or picture. Some goals are that I want to try is to add different categories, not only school subject categories but home categories like cooking recipes or room diy’s and more!! My favorite things we were doing was creating the header and customizing things, well my blog doesn’t have a header (but before I had a theme which did have a header),
I’m really proud of my blog right now because of how its organized and the theme of my blog because it represents a little bit of my personality and it shows the style of me. I’m also proud of the color contrast and the way you can see all the posts clearly and the comments as well. What i really like about my blog is that when you keep on scrolling down the fishes on the background move along and how the worm comes from above. The widgets are also nice because the outer edge looks like a border! I’m just really happy!!!
I’m really proud of howmany kind of sensible posts i’ve made and that in a week i’ve gotten 13 comments from my friends in Calgary. I think “Piano History” and “Step By Step Piano” is useful because I have a lot of information on “Piano History” and that “Step By Step Piano” helps some people if they want to learn the piano.
For some reason I just want to learn how to make our own theme and then let everyone use it but I don’t know if we’re allowed to yet!! A few of my goals are that I want to make more posts in the future and create a page about something random I guess. I enjoyed making the page “About Me” because you get a chance to express your personality and life to the world and web! A few other goals are that I want to make some useful and sensible posts for people to do their homework or learn something new.
What I have been doing so far in design for Analyzing and Inquiring is planning and make a blog page, making a brainstorm and how to know what the things on the blog represent. Actually what’s interesting to me is looking at some great old blogs that students did last year.
I need a blog because i can communicate, share photos, tell the world that 6C is AWESOME, and if I write about myself people will know my likes and dislikes,The problems that a blog could solve is that if I want to share something with my friends and I don’t have facebook, twitter, or anything like that I can always use my blog and comment. Something else that will help me using a blog is that I could ask a follower for answers to random questions or I could ask them questions ( like i’m going to cheat. )
I think the title/topic, theme and design are the most important to me because the design should have clear paragraphs and spacing and should be easy to read. The theme is important because it tells the reader what the blog could be about, when they just look at it! it makes a good blog because the reader would want to follow you and want to comment you and share things with you.
I could design it and make sure its good if i design/plan it on sheets of paper or I could ask the teacher to see if theres a rubric and check if I have all of the things on a rubric. I would plan my blog by making a brainstorm ( like how we did ) on ideas that connect what i’m going to be doing on my blog. I can even do a document of ideas ( related to the brainstorm )
I want to improve on actually being able to understand tech things for what to do on a blog. What I want to learn next is how to make more categories, posts, and other things that go on the blog! I enjoyed making a blog and making the design features as well because some people were racing to get that word first! I enjoyed a lot!!
