My experience with wilderness engagement.

I have done scouting in Finland and Japan. As a scout, I have been to a number of camps. During these camping trips I have learned how to use a compass and a map, start a fire with matches or a flint and steel, set up a tent, travel by canoe, and tie a number of knots. I have done multiple over night hikes where I have cooked my own food. The last over night hike that I have done was at the grade 9 2017 YIS expeditions. It was a two night hike and it was my first over night hike in Japan. I had quite a bit of fun, even though the nights were cold and everyone became greasy and dirty. The hike pushed my comfort level and made me realize how cool hiking in Japan can be.
