GCD – Multilingualism

18.03.13

Multilingualism to me before is the ability to speak different languages. For me, I can speak Japanese and English fluently. To be truly honest, my English is a lot better than my Japanese as my Japanese is a little rusty. I am taking native Japanese and in English (Language and Literature). There are times I wish I paid more attention in Japanese when I was younger so that I wouldn’t be in a difficult position in class. I am able to converse but I should have a larger vocabulary. I currently think that it’s more about appreciating your culture and language. For example, I am Japanese American. By being multilingual/half – I can appreciate and be involved in more cultural experiences. I think that appreciating other cultures is nice and kind but I don’t think you should go the extent of “changing” and “pretending” to be another culture.
