What are some minerals used in an iPhone? These are some of the minerals that are used in an iPhone. Some materials that are used on your phone are Tin, Aluminium, Carbon, Silicon, Copper, Cobalt, Gallium, Arsenic, Tantalum, Tungsten, Gold. These are some of the elements used in an iPhone. There might be some more elements used but these are the main. Tungsten is used to help your iPhone vibrate, Aluminium is used to keep your phone together. It  Is also used on the outer cover of the iPhone 6 and 7 series. Gold is used in the wiring of your phone. Cobalt is used in the batteries in your phone. Some of these materials are from conflict zones for example Cobalt. Apple says it’s trying to stop getting materials from these places but there has not been much change. I think that with how much money Apple is earning a year($46.9 billion), it should at least use some of it for resolving these conflicts and helping the workers there. Even if they spend 1% of their yearly income, It would make a big difference for many people who live in the harsh conflict zones.

These materials I talked about right now some of the parts that are on an iPhone.

 

Now, What are some of the problems in the conflict zones? Congo is filled with so many minerals but there are also many conflicts.Some of the conflicts that are happening in the conflict zones such as Congo are Murder, Rape, Human trafficking, Child Labour. These are some of the conflicts going on in the Republic of Congo. There are so many people in Congolese Camps who work for more than 12 hours a day to earn less than 8 pence a day. The Time’s news says that they found kids young as 4 years old working in these mines separating Cobalt from stone. None of the workers wears protective gear. Scientist say that Cobalt Is very bad for your body and can affect your life expectancy.This is happening because people want to work for many even if it’s very little. Sometimes due to human trafficking, the army forces people to work or they get killed. They sell what the miners work hard for less price so big companies like Apple would buy it.

  • Some solutions to this are to take donations from all around the world and use it on buying protective gear and giving more money to the people living there. They could use the money to build sanitation systems and food for the people working in the mines.
  • Another solution is to make the government more stable. It is going to be hard to make the government uncorrupt.
  • One other solution is for people to be careful in the factories in other countries where big-name companies such as Apple and Samsung buy their resources. They can be careful with smuggling and tighten the security

These are 3 of the solutions I have come up with. I know that it is going to be incredibly hard to make the Congolese government uncorrupted but that is will work the most. With the Congolese government uncorrupted, they will try to make the country a better place for the people working and will try to make the workers have a better working place and a better life. The other solutions would work and is easier but I think that the idea which will work the most is to somehow make the Congolese government uncorrupted.

I think that the conflict mineral zone issue is very important and the world should be more mindful and know that there are so many people who work for more than 12 hours a day to earn less than 8 pence a day to make the iPhone that people use. Some people as soon as a new iphone is made, they throw their old iPhone which would still be just a 1 or 2 years old. Instead, they should sell to recycling shops which will help so many people out there in Africa. I hope Unicef takes serious action against this matter and let’s try to do as much as we can to help.

Unit 2 Art Final Reflection

My Ukiyo-e prints has lots of strengths. First of all I think I had a good color plan. Blue on yellow. Red on black.

I am happy that I thought of using the golden state logo. I think something I did well was carving because I felt like i could carve every small detail on my carving. I also think I did well design because it is complicated but not hard to carve. Some solution I felt proud of was when not all the color was getting to the page.My solution was to spread the ink straight then turn the printing plate around and spread the ink again so the ink reached all the places. Matthew really helped me with my cultural influence.At first I just wrote because there are lots of lines in Indian motifs I chose it, but Matthew said that there are lines in every motif so choose something more specific to India and now I have a more specific reason. My personal interest also got better because I added more detail.

I think my interlocking needs a little more work. If my ink transfers properly and perfect, then I can get my interlocking well. But right now the transfer is not going well so my interlocking still needs work.My interlocking creates circles in the side and squares in the top right left, both bottom left and right.I chose yellow and blue as my colors because those are the golden state warriors colors. I also chose red and black because those are the atlanta hawks colors(I do not like the team. I like the colors)

French coat of arms reflection

As seen in the photo this is my coat of arms. I made my coat of arms with orange and blue because they are bright and recognizable colors and the wall. My motto is Le basket-ball est égal à la vie (Basketball is equal to life) because personally I agree on that and i think it suits my coat of arms. Usually the coat of arms have 2 lions on each side but I changed mine to Stephen curry because he is related to basketball and he is my favorite player. In the middle of my coat of arms I have the sign of my favorite team golden state warriors. It is very clear that I am a huge basketball fan and I love the sport so that’s why I chose it as my main theme in my coat of arms. I think that this project was really fun and interesting and I hope we do an activity like this in the future.

Art Unit 1 Reflection

I think that my learning in art class helped me a lot because before coming to art class I used to draw cartoons and couldn’t draw realistic. After coming I learned about shadows, highlights, gradation and many more. I used the tips that Mr. Reed gave me like “Why don’t you add more highlights here” or “add a little shadow near the eye” and some other tips. Using these tips my realistic drawing skills got so much better and my drawing improved so much. I also found out that a blending stump is very useful for me to bend the lines on my drawing and also adding shadows and highlights make your drawing look more three-dimensional.

If I did this unit again there are some things I would like to change, such as changing my expression for my photo because I was just smiling in this one but maybe next time I could change it too a smirk it would be a little different to draw. Another thing I want to change is if I had a little more time I could have worked on close details for my hair because I think that there was not much detail. If I spend more time on hair I could have made it more realistic and look like actual hair.

2 words I chose to describe myself this unit is collaboration and reflective. I was collaborator because I asked advice from many people and they gave some good tips and I was talking with everyone to make my drawing best as possible. I also was a reflector because after each class I thought if I did good progress and did I use my time well.

Overall I think that this is was a great unit for me because I always wanted to draw a realistic self portrait and I think I did a pretty good job.

Reflection on myth book

This is my last reflection on my myth book.

Something that went well in this project was that the first graders were really engaged with myth story. They were concentrating on my book and asked questions like Where is this story from, or were does this take place. I was really happy to see the first graders engaged in my book.

Next time I would like to change the book from a 2d normal book to a 3d or pop out book. Why, because people will become shocked to see drawing pop out from the page and I think they will be even more engaged. I had lots of fun reading the book to the first graders. I had lots of fun and I hope the first graders had fun too.

 

 

 

English book making Evaluation

I think that I did  really good job on my english book.

I really liked my myth and how I designed my book.

A part I want to improve on next time is that to make the font easier for 1st graders to read. An easy font people can read is Trebuchet MS or Arial.

I also want to improve my drawings to be more sophisticated and detailed. Next time I will learn to draw a little better for example drawing the face shape more accurately and making the eyes look realistic.

I really like the background for my story page and the page looks old. This will make it so that the 1st graders will think that it was made long ago.

Some difficulties I had during this project was the drawing because at first my drawings were really bad so I had to redo them again and again until I got them good.

I think I used my time effectively and did not waste that much time.WAt first I didn’t get much done, but after I got the idea of my book, I finished it really fast. This shows me that when I am focused and have a good plan, I can complete tasks well.

The only thing I am worried about is that the 1st graders will break my book.

I really enjoyed this project and I am pretty sure the first graders will like it.
