Winter holiday – PROJECT VIDEO

Dear all,

We have talked in class about making an iMovie the first week back of your child’s winter holiday experience(s). All your child needs to do is to take short video clips of anything interesting that happens over the holidays such as:

  • friends and family time
  • visits out
  • trips
  • meals
  • present time
  • etc

Suggestion – download the film ‘footage’ to your child’s Dropbox account. OR, just bring the camera and lead into school on January 7th.

We will make a SHORT (maximum 2 minute) video of our holiday time on iMovie in class the first week back.

As an example, last year, Brazil, Kiyoka and Shion made this wonderful short video in 4N:

I hope you can help remind your child to take a few pictures/photos and more importantly SHORT video clips from time to time.

Have a great break everyone

Twitter idea for @5wYIS2012_13

Dear parents

I am not the world’s biggest fan of too much technology. In fact I love to ‘unplug‘ as much and as often as I can! And I don’t have my own Twitter account

However, I do believe in communication – and how to make those connections between your child and you about what is happening at school. That question “what did you do at school today?” is so often answered with “oh nothing.”

Well ….. in 140 characters, I can give you a ‘prompt’ into the day. A conversation starter along the lines of “oh that’s strange, because Mr. Weekes says that ….. ” Talking with the children here at school, they say that they sometimes forget what they have done – so your prompt might unlock a flow of thought.

So why not give it a go. Sign up to follow the 4 brave pioneers who have already signed up to follow our class account here at

I hope you find this way of connecting useful and not too intrusive into your busy daily schedules. That is the plan anyway

Best regards from me here at YIS
