Everyday I Can Learn About Who I Am With And Through Others . . .
Over the course of the school year we have been collecting video footage of the E1 children. Ms Lara has put the video clips together into a movie which shows the journey of the children over the school year. This week we began watching the movie together as a class and the children showed recognition and reflection of their own and each other’s growth through their reactions to the footage. Here are some of their comments:
Heidi: Ms. Emma’s helping Jackson put his shoes on.
Nina: But that was long time ago.
Elly-Grace: Look now he’s changing his shoes.
Heidi: Yeah, he’s putting his shoes on by himself.
Soheon: (about himself) Crying! That’s a long time ago.
Hanna: He’s looking at the other children and he was crying to his mummy.
Soheon: I’m looking.
Hanna: He didn’t sit in the circle, he’s far not sitting in the circle but he’s looking at everyone.
Elly-Grace: Now he’s saying bye bye to his mummy.
Oolka: He pushed her and say bye bye.
Ryu: So happy! He’s doing more with Sky.
Heidi: It’s me and Im looking sad!
Ryu: Why Heidi is not eating? Not talking? Crying.
Oolka: Now Heidi is happy!
Ryu: Andrew is crying.
Sky: He is not playing
Hanna: He’s just standing there and looking and sitting. He’s trying to come to Oolka.
Hanna: And now he’s happy he runs with friends. Oh my God! How can you jump like that?! I can’t even do that myself! I can’t do jumping like that Andrew.
Benthe: That’s you! (Isabella).
Jackson: Are you sleeping?
Ryu: No, she’s not changing shoes.
Hanna: She’s gonna fall down, hit her head because not sitting nicely.
Ryu: Look, no big drink from Isbella.
Isabella: It was long time ago that I couldn’t ride the bicycle but now I can ride it! I’m changing my shoes now and I am trying to pack my lunch.
Henry: What is Sky doing?
Sky: I’m not playing.
Soheon: You play with me?
Sky: No, Im not playing with you.
Nina: Looking (Sky is only looking at his friends playing)
Ryu: Nina is reading and Sky is watching.
Ryu: Now Sky is car playing.
Henry: That was when I wasn’t here. This is funny, Sky is being silly there.
Oolka: Nina is bestfriend with Mary, they’re friends.
Soheon: Long time ago.
Hanna: They not playing with Heidi.
Nina: When Vivi was not here. I was best friends with Mary. Sometimes with other friends, sometimes with Heidi, sometimes with Oolka.
Henry: They’re not plying together, they’ve changed!
Nina: Nina is with Vivi and Mary is playing with Soheon.
Henry: Nina and Ryu and Vivi. And Mary is with Jackson.
We will watch the remainder of the movie next week and your child will bring home a copy of it in his or her portfolio on the last day of school, for you to watch together. We hope you will experience, as we have done with the children, delight, wonder, amazement, surprise, pleasure, tears of joy (from the teachers) and more! Thanks to the wonderful Ms Lara for making this powerful movie so that the children, parents and teachers are able to recognise the immense growth in all of the children during their E1 year.
