HS Students will need to eat lunch at school or they have the choice to bring their home-made lunch OR order a Zest Bento before 4pm on November 11th (Note: once you sign up your Zest account will be charged) and pick it up after 9am on November 12th.
- G9-10 Girls and Boys competitive race*
- G11-12 Girls and Boys competitive race*
- G9-12 Walk/Run Charity event
- G9-12 Fun Events (hosted by the HS StuCo)
* there are different accolades for different grades but the race will run at the same time
***Please Note: we may run one HS Girls and one HS Boys competitive race, it all depends on the numbers running.
Students will have the option to race in a 2-lap run around Negishi Park (2.6Km approx). This will be a timed event. After competition, students are encouraged to join their Tutor group to complete the Walk/Run event.
Walk/Run Charity Event
Each Tutor group (team) in Grades 9-12 will decide on a specific challenge for the event. Students may work as a group and will dress up (theme to be decided soon) to prepare for the day.
The event will walk for approximately 40 minutes and you will complete a shortened Negishi course (approx 600m per lap). Students are encouraged to set a team tutor challenge for the day and post photos while out on the course to share with the YIS community. You can tag @YIS for all twitter photos and @YS1924 for all Instagram photos that will be fed live to school while you are out on the course/s.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I have to come to Cross Country Day? What if I am unwell?
Yes. This is a regular school day and you will continue with your normal classes in the morning and afternoon.
If you are not well, consider if you should come to school at all. If you are well enough to attend school, you should be able to walk around Negishi park – if not, come warmly dressed to assist the PE teachers or with a note to say what you are able to do with medical advice.
What should I wear?
Please get changed before you leave for Negishi park and then shower or change upon returning to school. We are out in the open, there are no rooms or spaces for private changing (except toilet blocks).
If you are running competitively, please wear appropriate clothing, running shoes and bring layers to keep warm. If you have a team walk/run challenge afterwards, please come prepared for this. You may like to listen to music as you run, but this is your choice and we take no responsibility for lost music devices.
What else do I need to consider?
Lunch, snacks and water – please bring these as you won’t have time for lunch on this day (there will be Zest Bento’s for sale!) and there is limited water supply at Negishi. You will need to dress warmly and for rain (check the weather).
Negishi Park is a public park and you will not have a safe place for valuables, don’t assume that your bag is going to be dry and safe – best to leave all non-essential items at school. Please take all your rubbish with you and leave the park as beautiful as you found it.
