Grade 4 Movement Composition Performance Day!

Congratulations to all Grade 4 students!
Grade 4 Students have finished their movement composition unit with a creative performance.

The students learned basic skills, rolls, balance poses, travels and dance. Each group had to include those essential elements in their performance. They composed 1 phrase of dance (8 beats x 4) and 10 gymnastic movements. Once they created their performance, their coordination skills became better and better. Their commitment toward their performance was also impressive and they demonstrated supportive attitudes towards each other. All the performances were very creative and enjoyable. Well done, Grade 4 students!

Students will have the option to race in a 2-lap run around Negishi Park (2.6Km approx). This will be a timed event.  After competition, students are encouraged to join their Tutor group to complete the Walk/Run event.

Walk/Run Charity Event

Each Tutor group (team) in Grades 9-12 will decide on a specific challenge for the event. Students may work as a group and will dress up (theme to be decided soon) to prepare for the day.

The event will walk for approximately 40 minutes and you will complete a shortened Negishi course (approx 600m per lap).  Students are encouraged to set a team tutor challenge for the day and post photos while out on the course to share with the YIS community.  You can tag @YIS for all twitter photos and @YS1924 for all Instagram photos that will be fed live to school while you are out on the course/s.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to come to Cross Country Day?  What if I am unwell?

Yes.  This is a regular school day and you will continue with your normal classes in the morning and afternoon.

If you are not well, consider if you should come to school at all.  If you are well enough to attend school, you should be able to walk around Negishi park – if not, come warmly dressed to assist the PE teachers or with a note to say what you are able to do with medical advice.

What should I wear?

Please get changed before you leave for Negishi park and then shower or change upon returning to school.  We are out in the open, there are no rooms or spaces for private changing (except toilet blocks).

If you are running competitively, please wear appropriate clothing, running shoes and bring layers to keep warm.  If you have a team walk/run challenge afterwards, please come prepared for this.  You may like to listen to music as you run, but this is your choice and we take no responsibility for lost music devices.

What else do I need to consider?

Lunch, snacks and water – please bring these as you won’t have time for lunch on this day (there will be Zest Bento’s for sale!) and there is limited water supply at Negishi.  You will need to dress warmly and for rain (check the weather).

Negishi Park is a public park and you will not have a safe place for valuables, don’t assume that your bag is going to be dry and safe – best to leave all non-essential items at school.  Please take all your rubbish with you and leave the park as beautiful as you found it.

IF YOU HAVE ANY FURTHER QUESTIONS OR COMMENTS, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR PE TEACHER.

ES Cross Country Day Information 2015

Elementary XC day 2014-6Elementary XC day 2014-191

The annual YIS Cross Country will be held in Negishi park on Thursday, November 12th.

The students will have choices to run 1 lap (1.3km) or 2 laps (2.6km). They will set their own goals and try to achieve them on that day.

Every PE class from Grade 3-5 will have the opportunity to complete some practice in advance of this exciting day. Students will be bussed to Negishi Park during two special PE lessons ahead of the day (Grade 4 & 5 : October 21st and November 4th, Grade 3 : October 21st and November 6th). The PE department will be sharing more information about the event as it nears, so be sure to check back to this blog regularly.

Gr3-5 students who are keen to complete more training might like to talk to their parents about adding some extra walking, bicycle riding or perhaps a game of tennis, hockey or any other sport that gets the heart racing and the legs moving.

As the holiday approaches, it might be time to think about whether students have the most appropriate gear for Cross Country and PE, some ideas may include:

Shoes
All students need to wear proper athletic running shoes. Please do not buy the brightest lovely colored ones you see. Please go to a running/athletic shoe specific shop, take your old shoes and then talk to the person who know about feet, shoes, and exercise.

Sports Shorts/shirts etc.
Try and choose sport fabrics and then buy some warmer layers for colder weather. All YIS students are required to wear a YIS T-shirt to PE which can be purchased in the store.

The school store hours are:
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays 8:15 – 11:30 am
