As part of our unit of inquiry into How We Express Ourselves the children have been exploring feelings and emotions. On Monday, I read a book called On Monday When It Rained by Cherryl Kachenmeister and Tom Bethiaume. Over the next days we re-read the book and talked about how the main character in the story felt. The children made connections to their own lives and showed their ideas on paper. Together, we brainstormed to come up with a list of feelings and emotions. The children used mirrors to explore their own facial expressions. Then they worked with a partner, photographing each other to record different feelings. Finally the children took turns at sketching each other’s facial expressions, carefully observing their partner’s facial features.
Can you guess how these children are feeling?
