Inviting the Animal Shelter to the Assembly

At the assembly on Feb. 25, we were able to donate the money to the Animal Shelter. We invited the head of the Animal Shelter to come and tell us about their activities. In the assembly, there were many things that went well. We were able to invite her and we were able to donate the money. We also worked well as a group to organise this. However, there were few things that did not go well.  When we were inviting her, there were some problems with email. There was not much time from when we sent the first FAX to the date of the assembly. We were also late at responding emails sometimes. On the last email, we found out that we were mixing up the dates and we sent the last email on the day before the assembly.

Therefore, from next time we would like to improve some things. We would like to be more organised and plan out what exactly we are going to do and when. By doing this, the people we are inviting will have more time to prepare and there would not be last-minute email sent. Our next goal would be to collect the unused pet objects and visit the Animal Shelter.

Ocean clean up – Reflection (23, Feb)

On Feb. 21 we went to shichirigahama to clean up the ocean. Something that worked well was that we we’re all on time, and we all brought the equipment we needed. Also, we cooperated as a group, and put strength and efforts on cleaning up the ocean. Something that we didn’t prepare was where we would throw away the garbage because we didn’t research about where we would throw away the garbage. Another thing that we could’ve improved was that we struggle going to the beach, so next time, we need to research carefully of how to go to the beach.
Overall, we think we did well at achieving our goals. However, not many students had participated in ocean clean up activity, so we think that maybe we could expand the limits of people who could participate in ocean clean up. Next time when we go to the beach, our goals are to invite more people, so that we can make the environment better. Also, we would like to inform more people about the problem of dirty oceans, and raise the awareness of littering.

Children’s Day // Childhood Center Group

Hello we are the Childhood Centre Group.

We came up with several new ideas in today’s meeting which we can make it happen at YIS.

Our idea is to do a festival(?) on the children’s day which is May 5th. We think this will be a great idea because we have enough time to plan, make things, etc. In this project, we hope to be able to

  • make something to eat, for example, cupcake, cookies, etc
  • have some games related to children. For example quiz

Red and White Reflection

The Red and White group discussed how we could improve for the next Red and White concerts.

These are the things we discussed:

Committee

  • 1 more person in the set up committee

To Do

  • make posters earlier on
  • promote charity on posters
  • talk in assembly

To improve

  • choose charity earlier
  • send out signup earlier
  • put money boxes in the foyer after red and white
  • more boxes to donate money
  • faster planning
  • games
  • involve PTSA
  • interact with audience more
  • more variety of performances
  • mix up the acts

Chiku Center Main Reflection:

In November we the challenge we had was getting people to donate food. To encourage them to bring food, we had a competition in between the classes. This worked very well but we could do better. As the year goes on, we are going to try and improve the donations. The problem we had was where to put the food when someone brought it. The bin we had was hard to see so we got let food because people didn’t know where to put it. For semester two, we are planning to go to the Chiku Center even more than we go now. We are also going to try very hard to get people to donate more food.

Our Plan for the 2nd Semester

In the first semester, we were able to raise a lot of money, thanks to students and teachers. We organised a bake sale and were also able to raise money in the Red and White Concert. In total we were able to raise 41,393 yen! Now, for the second semester, we are planning to actually give the money to the animal shelter. We are planning to do this by contacting the animal shelter and if possible, ask them to come to our school and teach us about their activities. If not, we are planning to go there and give the money there.

Our plan – Childhood centre group

During the vacation on our first meeting of 2016, we have chosen our plan. Our plan is to visit the children with eye sight disabilities. To make this happen, our plan is to meet Ms. Nakagawa on the 14th on January after school. We are hoping we will be able to plan more after the meeting with Ms. Nakagawa.

Ocean clean up – Nov.17

  • What have you succeeded in doing so far?

We the 15.Nov we went to 七里が浜 (Shichirigahama) beach, for cleaning up the litter. We collaborated with the HS and went to clean up the ocean as a team. We gathered into small teams, and picked up the trashes. Separating papers and plastics differently.

  • What are the strengths of your team?

The strength of our team is that we have a very strong friendship, and we work very efficiently together. We are all wanting to cooperate, and we have different ideas, so as a whole we form a better community.

  • In what areas, could your team improve?

We could improve on encouraging more people to come to the ocean cleanup, and making more posters to inform people about the problems of the ocean.

  • What are your group’s next steps?

Our next goal is to go visit the beach that is dirtier, and to encourage people to come to the ocean clean up activity.
