MIDDLE & HIGH SCHOOL

  • Giving Tree Donations Drive

Hey everyone!

As we did last year, the Sanagitachi and HOPE Cambodia service groups will be running the Giving Tree Donations drive over the next two weeks leading into Christmas break, starting Monday the 4th until Friday the 15th.

We urge everyone in the school community to go to one of the trees (either in the foyer or in the elementary area above the canteen), take a tag and bring in the item listed on the tag or any other donations before winter break.

Your support is greatly appreciated and will make a big difference to people receiving your donations. We hope everyone has a wonderful last couple of weeks of school and gets into the Christmas spirit of giving! (Sanagitachi)

  • Message from Van der Poel

Good morning YIS!

This is the last day of Van der pole donation collection day!!!
Firstly we would like to apologize for the mistake of figures yesterday, it was not 3 million… but for a second we thought it was real since YIS is amazing with people donating generously every day! Well the real number is 319,476 yen.
This is the last day and we hope to have some last minute donations!!
Christmas is for everyone and we hope you felt like you were able to help the children who will now be able to have a Christmas party!

Thank you so much for all your generousity! (Van der Poel)

  • Support for Personal Project (Repeat)

Hi. My name is An from grade 10 and for my personal project I will be opening a pop up shop in the library on Monday. It will be up all day from 8 till 5. There will be a mixture of products – some old and some new with items like dvds, pencil cases, pens, stickers and more. All of the proceeds will be donated to SympaMeals, an organization in Vietnam that provides meals for cancer patients who cannot afford food. Please come by and support! – Thank you, (An, Grade 10)

  •  Snow Club Winter Kick-Off Sale (Repeat)

Hello YIS,
Snow Season is upon us, and ski hills are set to open in the coming weeks all over Japan.

If you are missing some gear to hit the slopes like gloves, coats, helmets, goggles, pants or even a snowboard, the YIS Snow Club will be partnering with Burton Snowboards for their Winter Kick-Off Sale, this Saturday December 2nd, from 10AM to 4PM at YCAC.

Lots of Burton gear will be discounted up to 50%, and all proceeds from the event will be donated to Chill Japan, a Japanese NPO that helps children who have been affected by natural disasters by providing them with fun activities like snowboarding.

Tell your parents, tell your friends. See you on Saturday! (Mr. McKeown)

  • Celebrating World AIDS Day

Hi guys! We hope you haven’t forgotten to wear something red today to celebrate World AIDS Day. If you did, don’t worry! We have red boxes located in the foyer of the main building as well as a box in front of the secondary school office containing ribbons that you can wear to also show your support.

Although World AIDS Day is only on December 1st, it doesn’t mean that you can’t continue to show support for the rest of the year! The hashtag #LetsEndIt was created to raise awareness about the stigma and discrimination about people living with AIDS and HIV. Post of picture of you and your friends wearing red with the hashtag #LetsEndIt to show your support!

Happy World AIDS Day! (LGBTQ+ Group)

  • Asexual awareness week

Today is the last day of asexual awareness week, and we would like to ask you to fill out this short form. As written on Monday’s daily, the survey is not one survey per tutor group, but will be submitted per student if they would like to participate. We will announce the tutor group that was most aware of asexuality, and will give them a small prise next Monday.

Hope you enjoyed this and could learned a little more about asexuality!
Thank you. (LGBTQ+ group)

  • HS Book of the Day

This short story collection of psychological thrillers by popular authors like Marie Lu & Leigh Bardugo is going to crawl its way into your dreams. From bloody horror to unnerving realism, this @sakuramedal contender is for thrill seekers. #hsbookoftheday #yislearning (Ms. Katy)
