Students will be working on the first draft of their informative speech this week. They are expected to research their topic to write their first draft, and will need to use the computer. If they are done with their research and the first draft, they can read a book of their choice.

EAP G9, Summative Task:

  • Open Google Docs to record the answers.
  • Rename the document : your name, summative task
  • Share the document with me.
  • If you can’t access  Google Docs, then write your answers on paper.

  A)Reading Comprehension:

  • Read the argumentative essay called Health and Healing at Your Fingertips and answer the questions asked at the end.

B&C)  Two short quizzes on types of sentences and sentence errors.

After the students have done their summative task, they can do some quiet reading. They have been instructed to bring a book of their choice from home. If not, they can borrow a book from the class library (behind the whiteboard).

Today we will analyse and see what these leardeship style are, and then identify the context and the followers that make these leadership styles possible.

Then in groups we will create a scenario for each style and then enact them in class on Monday, Dec 12.

In class we will also identify criteria on how to assess these skits.

Indicators for assessment:

  • Conveying through words, action and scenario the characteristics of  the leadership style.
  • The situation where this style works best and worst is enacted.

During period 3, we will go over the answers of the all the activities in the booklet on Sentences. 

Special emphasis wil be paid on the following activiries:

Activity 2.2 : Reading between the lines(inference questions)

Activity 2.4 : Reordering the sentence( identifying independent/main clauses, dependent/subordinate clauses and the phrases).

Activity 2.7 : Interpreting the words.

During Period 4, students will be asked to do a quick 1 minute extemporaneous speech on the topic of Edward de Bono’s 6 hats thinking.

Friday Period 7&8: Reading Comprehension task.

 Reading Comprehension Booklet : Sentences

  • Read the ‘Focus’ section on complex sentences.
  • Then do the activity 2.1
  • After that read the passage from the novel, Dracula, by Bram Stoker.
  • Then do all the activities from the section, Responding to the Text2.2, 2.3, 2.4, 2.5, 2.6 and 2.7.

After you have finished this task, read a book that you have brought with you.If you do not have a book, choose one from our class library(behind the whiteboard).

I have also shared some articles and videos on our Diigo EAP 9 group. Go ahead and read these articles, or view the videos and then leave a comment on them by using Diigo highlighter and sticky notes.
