Grade 6 spent the last weeks in Drama studying dance. This was not the first unit many of them have had on dance. They put their all into movement in the classroom and creatively choreographing compositions. We studied the structures of dance as well using the theatre space. Grade 6 students worked in partners and small groups to choreograph compositions to demonstrate symmetry, rhythm, dynamics, gesture and emotion. For our summative task, students developed movement using these elements as well as incorporating a prop into their dance. The final composition needed to communicate an overall theme.

Creative Movement can express and communicate ideas and feelings.
