Grade 5 has completed a unit on dance in Drama. The focus was on motivation and composition. They recently shared their compositions with the other grade 5 classes.

The grade 4 classes have been doing a dance unit in Drama. The focus of this unit is rhythm and music. The students suggested using the Pink Panther theme with its identifiable rhythm.

2c has enjoyed creating stories together. This is a story they made up together in class. It has a king, queen, princes, princesses, knights, a dog, a cat and dragons. The students chose their characters and decided what they would say in the story.
These are the first compositions for solos.
In this summative task, 8B students worked in small groups to develop characters and present a scene where they were trapped in an elevator. In developing their character, students had to consider their character’s relationships with other characters and how their character would react in the situation.

6C finished their first unit on improv with a Theatre Sports Event. The class divided into 3 teams. Each person had to participate in at least two games. Please watch the videos below.

4G has begun their first unit on dance in drama class. Many of the students had a unit on dance last year and this is an opportunity to build on what they have learned.
Music and rhythm inspire us to dance.

The students in 4G had eyed on my shelf some new ribbons and scarves I had ordered since last school year. They had asked repeatedly to use them. Today was the day when we took them out to experiment with movement. We shared the ways we could use the ribbons and scarves and tried them with varied music. Our next classes will be on choreographing with our new props.
4N has begun their first unit on dance in drama class. Many of the students had a unit on dance last year and this was an opportunity to build on what they had learned.

Their first choreography assignment for this unit involved creating patterns of movement. They worked in small groups and all were very involved in the planning. The short dance had to have a beginning, middle and ending and use the “stage” space. It also had to have a minimum of three patterns. I am always inspired by the student’s enthusiastic approach as they work to create together. All of them were eager to share and perform their dances for the class.
In Drama, the students in 5G are working on their classroom inquiry about scientific discoveries. The students are working in groups to produce a short iMovie about a scientist and scientific discovery. While supporting the inquiry in the classroom, the students are learning the skills of making a storyboard, using a camera and editing. We hope to document their process through this unit.
