The objective of the JNL class is to provide the students with well-balanced competence in r Japanese with the use of Kokugo textbooks authorized by the Ministry of Education for Japanese Elementary Schools. However, YIS grade levels do not necessarily correlate to the grade levels of the Kokugo textbooks. Because of the time allocated to Japanese language studies, students will complete Kokugo 2- A textbooks when they finish Grade 2 JNL class. Focus: 1. Solidifying Hiragana and Katakana writing 2. Discussions on familiar topics and oral presentation 3. Describing experiences and past events 4. Creative and informative writing 5. Grammar and vocabulary building 6. Acquisition of 80 new Kanji and their compounds 7. Selected PYP Units of Inquiry 8.
