五年生のみなさん、

今日は宿題の日ですが、春休み前なので宿題はキャンセルにします。

金曜日の宿題提出と、漢字テストもキャンセルにしましょう。

つぎの宿題の日は、3月28日(火)で、漢字テストは3月30日(木)です。漢字テストは、p66ーp71です。

G5 students have had a session with our calligraphy teachers, Nakabayashi sensei, at ICJC today, as a part of UoI, Aesthetic expressions. They learned that Japanese calligraphy is the art of moment, and it is different from ‘shuji’, the handwriting practice.

In September and October, we are going to learn:

 – We are going to learn the format of formal speech using “Hitotsu no Hana” and other reading materials. Students will also work on reading comprehension exercise by reading descriptive texts and poem about war. 

-We are going to continue learning new Kanji. Grade 5 students will finish learning all the Grade 4 level kanji at the end of Grade 4. We will differentiate each student’s kanji level when necessary.

<Kanji and Home learning>

Students will have Japanese Home learning after Back to School Night. Their home learning day is Day4 (submit on Day 6) Day 10 (submit on Day 2). Contents will be …Kanji practice, free-reading and free-writing. Please check students’ Home learning booklet for details. 

 <Others>

Please encourage them to review G2 and G3 level Kanji in outside of the classroom as well. Please also give them many opportunities to read Japanese storybooks. We have many great books in Japanese classroom as well. Students can borrow them anytime if they let a teacher know about it.

 Grade 5 Japanese as a Native Language Class

Japanese class day: Day 1, 2,3, 4, 6,7,8, and 10

 

The objective of the JNL class is to provide the students with well-balanced competence in Japanese as a Native Language with the reference of Kokugo textbooks authorized by the Ministry of Education for Japanese Elementary Schools. However, YIS grade levels do not necessarily correlate to the grade levels of the Kokugo textbooks.  Because of the time allocated to Japanese language studies, students will cover half part of Kokugo 4-B textbooks when they finish Grade 5 JNL class.

 

Focus:

  1.  Reading various kinds of stories and poetry
  2.  Project work and group /individual activity on selected PYP units
  3.  Group discussion and individual oral presentations
  4.  Writing descriptive and informative passages
  5.  Writing essays and compositions
  6.  Grammar and vocabulary building
  7.  Introduction to 200 new Kanji (Grade 4 level)

There is no school since it is snowing outside. 

I encourage you to work on  following things if possible. 

Stay inside, stay safe! 

 

Grade 3 JAL- Please work on writing-practice hiragana/katakana in your green notebook. 

Grade 4 JNL-Please practice kanji for tomorrow’s kanji quiz. Also please read a story/chapter book for 20 minutes. 

Grade 5 JNL-Please practice Kanji for tomorrow’s kanji quiz. Also, please read a story/chapter book for 20 minutes.
