I think that todays age in technology is very advanced and interesting. It can be seen that a lot of people have cellular phones that have a camera on it. It has become very easy to post something on the web instantaneously. I think that most of the time people will take it for granted but we all can see the news upload it and respond to it on one device that we constantly carry around. This documentary was intriguing because it shoed how easily it was done, and how different it was before. The split in generation that was observed in the documentary was also very interesting, the younger generation immediately went to their phones, and social network sites, and subsequently retrieved their data. I think that although social networking is a good way to spread news, it isn't used as much as the documentary states that it is used. I never really gon on facebook or twitter to see news, but to chat with friends and see what they are doing. I have never learnt any breaking news through a social networking site, so curiously I had a shroud of doubt to whether this use of media was as extensive as described.

I think it was quite an interesting documentary that effectively demonstrated the strength of social media and how it revolutionized the art of news reporting. I found it particularly interesting how the strength of social media such as twitter, facebook, etc, may seem to appear as a potential enemy that will bring down the news agencies whom report as a profession, but the speaker mentions that social media sources greatly help in reporting the news from multiple angles; such as news that the news agency dares not to venture in situations such as severe and life threatening war and conflicts; hence the speaker states that the social media shall be an ally to the news agency in reporting precise and accurate news. However, it is still questionable whether it is ethical that we rely on information posted by amateurs, however the truth is most likely bent through professional media anyways so amateur information may actually be more truthful than professional news depending on the program.

The documentary we watched in class discussed what effects social media, specifically Twitter, has on most journalists. Twitter, a microblogging network, allows its users to send and read short messages up to 140 characters.
Twitter is used for a variety of reasons, but recently it has begun to replace journalists. One can simply receive the top news from someone witnessing the event. For instance, during the Japanese Tsunami in 2011, many people "tweeted out" that they were experiencing the tsunami. This message reached thousands quicker than a news report or a newspaper article would. Twitter may destroy the value of being a journalist or news reporter, but it is however much more efficient. Nobody has to pay and fly over to witness the events, but someone can just take pictures or film short videos and spread it over the internet via. Twitter, Facebook or Youtube. Do we need the BBC? Do we need any news reporters? This question has come up many times…
However, there is another disadvantage. Many people, trying to get attention or "followers," are starting to post false rumors and information. This questions Twitters reliability, since one can never be sure who is sitting behind the screen posting those messages.
In addition, these social media tools allows many different cultures, races and religions to share their beliefs, feelings, opinions etc. through just a few clicks. It connects the whole entire world!
Is it a good idea however to be involved everywhere? It is difficult to separate privacy from publicity and difficult to protect it as well. One can never truthfully know if one got hacked or if someone is watching one's every move.
The social media tools are increasing and will increase their popularity over the next few years. There are good aspects of it, meaning the efficiency and the fact that it can connect many different people, but it also has negative aspects, where one can question the reliability of messages/images/videos sent out and the privacy limitations.
Perhaps journalism will gradually fade over the next few years or maybe it may reinvent itself. Whichever way, it is impossible to stop the growing social media network.

News reporters have to have a social network now or they can't work. Some posts are not true so BBC does not put it up. Social network then deletes them. False information may be leaked on the social networks but news people cannot use them if they do not know if it is accurate. They need to be 100% sure, in order for them to use it.

Lyse Doucet’s clip:
After watching Lyse Doucet’s clip, it made me rethink about social networking and the media. How social networking has affected people and our daily lives and how important it is for us. I related it to myself, where I use social networks daily such as Twitter and Facebook and it made me realize how much social networking revolves around us.

Social media has changed the way the news is and that is has improved it in many ways.
Social media website like twitter and facebook are a much faster way to report on events.
She shows how different people view social media.
Some tweets or videos posed online may not be legitament, so people here wrong rumors and stories. Since twitter is so broad and big those false stories spread very quickly.

The topic of media is extremely interesting, especially nowadays because we are in the middle of a technological revolution. The revolution has enabled people to live report, on the scene without having to be a professional or having to work for a broadcasting company. Smartphones have allowed people to access high-speed internet pretty much anywhere at any given time. The Internet has also enabled us to both get and share news. Social networks, such as Facebook and Twitter has done the same.

The two biggest points that I found interesting were the fact the everyone can use social network as a resource and also the reliability aspect of all this. The first point was interesting because back in the days broadcasting companies had sources which they kept away from rival companies, however due to social networking anybody is able to use this information. The second point is the reliability of the source. Obviously companies such as the BBC are clever enough to figure out that not all news are accurate. It was interesting how different companies have different methods of filtering and choosing there news to make sure that they have value and are also reliable.

I couldn't agree more with what Lyse Doucet said in her conclusion. One of the main question of the show was how should broadcasting companies react to this revolution. She stated that people still rely highly on the main companies because they are trust worthy and that many people know the faces of the reporter.

-How the news gets out first changed greatly over years due to social media such as twitter or facebook.
-Are tv news shows and newspapers necessary now that we have the social media to get information from?
-Less people will be watching the tv for news, we find out a lot of big stories from other sources, such as facebook, twitter etc
-I think especially newspapers will be outdated soon, no one will spend time on reading when theres other ways to find out
-How do you know that what you see on tv and hear is real?
-How do we identify if a tweet or a youtube video is true or not? People may be making up things.

During her presentation one of the things she talked about where do journalists stand in the midst of the revolution where people have powers? I found this part of her presentation to be interesting, and I also found interesting the part she talked about how you are never the only one reporting the story, that there will be multiple people. Although this is english class I thought this was relatable to the theory of the survival of the fittest, because in this day and age everyone can be a journalist by posting their ideas or stories or movies/pictures online and basically become an amateur journalist. With more people being able to be a journalist there is more competition and she was saying that where do journalist stand in the midst of the revolution where everyone has power? To be honest I think that, being a journalist doesn't give you the glory that it used to, that in the future maybe the profession of being a journalist will diminish, making all journalists in the world amateurs.

Her presentation was interesting because she talked about how the media is changing video broadcasting. Although we talk about how media is changing our society now we hardly talk about how it is affecting certain fields of work, or certain professions. Although I do think that social media is very important and helps us understand other parts of the world or people like she says it is very important to know that the information we are receiving is credible, accurate and reliable.

The speaker of this video talks about the improvement in social media and its impact on journalism (is it positive? or negative?) The speaker first talks about how new agencies are no longer the only ones that has access to media. She states that with the development in social medias such as tweeter, and face book, everyone is involved in media as they can upload videos or photos with their smart phones. With her own experience in Pakistan, she puts emphasis on how fast the news are delivered through social media. However, she states that these photos or videos can be wrong and can be viewed differently depending on the person. This made me thought as if she thinks of the involvement of the people in journalism as a negative effect on journalism. She stated that the speed is only one part journalism. And that a news that is more accurate and solid is more important then the speed of the news. However, later in the documentary, she also explains how the involvement in the news does not mean a downfall in journalism or the news agency. Instead, she explains that tese two sources can be joining forces as long as they confirm the information and entertainment of the news over and over again. However, although she says that the loss of exclusiveness in journalism is such a bad thing, it seemed to me that she is more against in the involvement of normal people.
