Criteria B&C metals: the effects of acids on metals
Hello 8R: As you know school is cancelled today so you have some science e-learning work to do.
First, the test set for today is postponed until Thursday January 25th (your next class).
So you have some more time for review!
Remember that the criterion D questions will test you ability to outline and analyse the causes, problems and solutions associated with ocean acidification so keep this in mind when analysing your sources.
If you can add some of your own review to the A & D review guide then that would be great, but this is optional.
I hope you can enjoy the snow and email me if you have any questions.
Today we are going to finish up the year by looking back at the work we have done and summarise the knowledge and skills you are taking forward into high school. Here is the task.
The students have started work on a project about space. They should know what to do today, but just in case:
They are mostly doing this in pairs. They can discuss the work, but this should be quiet and limited to their pair.
They have access to a task sheet and TSC on the class blog.
By the end of the class they should have:
If they have time, they can start preparing the research template for assessment.
They should remember to make their bibliography as they go and not leave this until the end.
For this part of the course you will use the research skills developed throughout the year to investigate an aspect of “space in the news”.
The work for this assessment will form the research and planning for science fair this year.
Your research will be assessed for criterion D.
Here is the Task sheet and TSC:
This work will be due at the end of the science class on Monday June 2nd. You will have all of the class time until then to work on this task.
Here are the worksheets and background reading for the circuit electricity labs we have just completed.
Lab 1 worksheet: Measuring electron flow in a simple circuit and using an analogy to explain what is happening with energy.
Lab 2 worksheet: Measuring current in series and parallel circuits.
Lab 3 worksheet. Measuring resistance and voltage in series and parallel circuits.
Criterion D task:
The main assessment for the circuits unit will be a criterion D assessment investigating the use and disposal of batteries
Use this batteries scaffold sheet to help plan your work.
The G8 Science exam will be on Thursday May 11th during Period 1 and 2 (9:10am – 10:40am) – 8H = M310
Review guide: The exam will include ideas from the acid relationships, metals and electricity units. All other questions will be based on investigative skills. These would include the following:
Here are practice questions to help your review. We will go through these in class.
If you need to review the answers again before the test they are here.
Use this reflection sheet to review the work you have done so far in your B&C assignments. This should help you to identify where you could improve your practical skills during the remainder of this year.
