Just in Case- Typhoon plan for school
It looks as though the main rain will fall this evening. However, as you know these things can be unpredictable. At the moment it looks as though things will go as planned for tomorrows grade 5 ceremony. However, the back up plan if this is not the case, is that we would do it on thursday morning at 9:00 in the auditorium followed by morning tea, before the final assembly.

Summer Reading suggestions: We are almost at the end of the school year but you should keep trying to read especially if you are not going to be speaking in English during the holidays.
In Grade 6 you will be reading Holes by Louis Sachar.
To get a head start, you might want to read it this summer. Then, when you read it again in class, you’ll feel more confident and be able to dig a bit deeper.

Central Idea
Society is affected by its natural resources and by how they are allocated and used.
Country Research
We are researching information about the following countries to see if we can make some conclusions about life in different places around the world.
We know that different countries have different resources and that wealth and poverty may be connected to the geography, land use, environmental issues, climate. We will be finding out about the impact on the quality of life for people by looking at statistics related to life expectancy, literacy rates, and the GDP for the following counties.
1. Niger
2. Somalia
3. Thailand
4. Australia
5. South Africa
6. Netherlands
7. Finland
8. China
9. Indonesia
But first we need to define some important terms.
Natural Resources
Happiness
Poverty
Poor
Wealth
Rich
We will be adding more information in the weeks ahead! Get ready for some informative in class keynotes and presentations where we will be researching and presenting over the next few weeks in teams.
