Grade 5 Camp 2012
11 04 2012Dear Grade 5 Parents:
We are excited to share the following details concerning our 2 night camp to Gotemba YMCA Tozanso International Youth Centre on Wednesday, May 30th to Friday, June 1st, 2012.
The grade 5 camp will allow your child to try many new challenges and activities in a safe and supportive environment. They will improve their self-confidence by participating in outdoor and indoor activities, widen friendships and take more responsibility for themselves while coping with a new level of independence. School camps are an important part of the school program, and it is expected that all children will attend.
The camp will be held at the well-established YMCA Tosanso International Youth Centre in Gotemba. It’s a beautiful facility in a forest close to Mt Fuji. Student accommodation will be in shared rooms in a hotel-like complex. A program of activities will be provided prior to the camp. We are planning a variety of nature walks, hikes and activities to make this an extraordinary learning experience for all Grade 5 students. The children will be supervised during the camp by your child’s teacher and an additional chaperone Ms. Pender, as well as the experienced outdoor activity staff from the YMCA. Nutritious food will be provided by the camp and those with special dietary requirements will be catered for according to the dietary information you will provide.
Students should arrive at school at 8:30 am on Wednesday, May 30th, and meet their teacher in their classrooms for roll call. We will then board the buses and depart YIS at 9:00 am sharp. We will return from camp on Friday, June 1st. We expect to arrive back at school for the regular dismissal at 3:00 pm. A full schedule of the activities will be shared soon.
Please fill out the attached permission form to give your consent. This should be returned by Friday 20th April.
The following specific forms and detailed information will be sent home next week:
- Medical consent/Confidential information form
- Detailed information about the camp
- List of things to bring
- Emergency information

Should you have any questions relating to your child or the camp, please feel free to contact your child’s class teacher. We are happy to discuss any issues or answer any further questions you may have. If your child has any specific concerns, difficulties or needs, we ask that you let us know so that we can be aware of them and assist your child to have a safe and enjoyable camp.
Kind regards,
