Business Studies Grades 10 Course Outline

Aims

Skills

The course develops a number of skills: logical thought, analysis and evaluation to solve problems, presentation skills, and presenting ideas and arguments in compelling a fashion.  In addition, students develop what many would be an essential life skill of  understanding of how the business world operates.

Assessment
During the course of the two years, students will complete a range of assessments. Examples include essay writing, presentations, group tasks and blogging. Depending on the task, students are most often assessed according to the course assessment rubric.  There is no final assignment, though there are two major assignments:  T-Fal (corporate business) and Starting your Own Business (entrepreneurship).

3. Management and Leadership
a. To discuss differences between management and leadership
b. To appreciate their preferred style of leadership

4. Communication:
a. To present persuasively on a variety of topics to a business audience
b. To respond effectively to verbal and written business questions
c. To communicate thoughts and idea succulently in case analysis
d. To use appropriate business vocabulary

5. Marketing:
a. To perform analysis using the using the marketing mix
b. To understand the purpose and various forms of marketing research
c. To explain the concept of branding
d. To explain the relationship between supply, demand and price
e. To understand basic channels of distribution and their importance

6. General Business
a. To understanding the fundamentals of an HR strategy
b. To understand modern global logistical systems
