As school is closed today, please find your assignment for today’s lesson:

You will prepare for an individual oral next week on our topic « A la maison».

Your oral will include 3 parts:          

  • a role-play
  • an oral presentation
  • a conversation

Your resources:

In your booklets « AV2_2 Livret maison » you will go to page 7 entitled « Parler » and you will prepare your oral with the help of the questions in section 3.

How to prepare for your role-play

Based on the instructions in this section, you will need to provide information about your house, which you want to exchange with a French family. You will be performing a role-play, over the phone, trying to convince the family that your house would be ideal. Use the questions given as prompts to prepare your responses.

How to prepare for your presentation

Your second task will be to give a short description, not longer than one minute, of your bedroom. Use the questions given in section 3 « Prépare une petite description de ta chambre » to work on your presentation. You may also use the notes you took in class on this topic to add more information.

How to prepare for the conversation

The last part of your oral will be a general conversation related to our topic. Prepare the questions given in section 3 « Réponds aux questions suivantes » to prepare yourself for this question and answer session.

You will make a copy of the document and go through all four steps to answer our unit questions. You will then publish the results of your research on your blogs.

Bonjour la classe,

Suite aux fortes chutes de neige hier, notre école restera fermée aujourd’hui et vous travaillerez à la maison.

Voici votre tâche pour aujourd’hui: votre épreuve sommative que vous deviez faire en classe.

« Après avoir lu en classe le texte ‘Tanguy, mode d’emploi’, vous allez composer un guide de recommandations à l’intention des parents d’un Tanguy. Vous leur donnerez des conseils pour les aider à faire quitter le foyer familial à leurs enfants. Vous utiliserez la forme impérative que nous avons étudiée dans le contexte de ce sujet. »

N’oubliez pas d’écrire entre 250 et 400 mots et de partager votre guide avec moi dans un document Google. Votre travail devra être terminé à 16 heures pour que je puisse le corriger immédiatement après. N’oubliez pas de consulter la fiche de vérification dont voici le lien. Bon courage!

Essential information

Your French internal examination is on Thursday May 5. It will be testing your reading comprehension skills and your writing skills on our current topic “Amusons-nous!”.

You will be expected to read several texts for understanding and in your writing task you will need to show how well you can plan leisure activities for a weekend.

How can you prepare yourselves?

a) Practice your reading comprehension skills with two texts in your online textbooks

Click on the Book Pages tab and select Chapter 6.

  1. Select the Lisons section on pages 188-189 and read all sections 1 to 4 of the text entitled Parcs d’attractions. You can then complete all activities from A to E in your cahier électronique.
  2. Select the Mise en pratique section on pages 194-195 and complete exercise 1 in your cahier électronique.

b) Practice your writing skills with your online textbooks

Select the Mise en pratique section on pages 194-195 and complete exercise 4 in your cahier électronique.

c) Review all grammar and vocabulary

  1. Review all your notes in your handouts on chapter 6 and make sure you are able to:
    1. Ask what a friend is planning to do
    2. Tell what you are going to do
    3. Say you have no particular plans
    4. Express future plans with the verb ALLER
    5. Use time frames appropriately
    6. Remember the names for leisure activities and their corresponding places
  2. Test yourselves on all of the above online:

Click on the Review and Assess to the right of Book Pages and practice the “Self-test” activities in the navigation bar on the left. You can do activities 1(a, b, c) to 4.

3. Further practice online

Practice your vocabulary online with Conjuguemos French vocab : in ALLEZ-VIENS 1, go to section 20, Chapitre 6-1 Amusons-nous!

You can review

  • with flashcards that you can download and cut up to test yourselves. Just click on the Flashcards link.
  • with the vocabulary list that you can also download and copy in your vocabulary notebooks to practice your spelling. Just click on the List of words link.
  • doing the online activity and time yourselves. Just click on Chapitre 6-1: Amusons-nous!

Pas de panique!

Remember that the texts you will be reading should be appropriate to your level of proficiency. You will not be expected to understand every single word in the texts but you will have to use various reading strategies to decode the texts quickly and understand their meanings. You will be looking for

  • context cues such as information from pictures or from sentences surrounding the unknown words
  • headings, subtitles
  • superscript numbers referring to a vocabulary list at the bottom of the page
  • cognates

Your French internal examination is on Wednesday May 4. It will be testing your reading comprehension skills and your writing skills on our current topic “Au téléphone”.

You will be expected to read two different texts for comprehension and you will need to show how well you can describe past events in the passé composé.

Comment vous pouvez vous préparer

a) Practice

Practice your reading comprehension skills with the text entitled « Je passe ma vie au téléphone », and answer all the questions in this document.

b) Review

  1. Review all your notes in your handouts on our current topic and make sure you are able to:
    1. Conjugate verbs in the passé composé
    2. Describe events in a chronological order, using sequential connectors
    3. Express your opinion on a past weekend
    4. Make and receive a phone call
  2. Review the dialogues you have written in your “Practice & activity” booklets, as they will be useful models for essay writing and in your “Travaux pratiques de grammaire” workbooks you are encouraged to review all sentence structures in the passé composé.

c) Further practice online

Practice your vocabulary online with Conjuguemos French vocab : go to sections 1 and 2 of Chapter 9, practicing either with Flashcards, List of words or the activities linked to each section.

Practice your verb conjugation online with Conjuguemos French verbs : go to the second section entitled INDICATIVE MOOD: THE COMPOUND TENSES. Choose the passé composé (with AVOIR).

Voici votre travail pour aujourd’hui:

Pour terminer notre étude du thème “Les relations sociales”, vous allez utiliser le document intitulé “Relations sociales Unité 1 Hodder”.

Vous irez à la page numéro 21 “IV: La famille et le mariage” et vous lirez le texte “Les formes familiales”. Vous ferez ensuite les exercices 1 et 2. Le deuxième exercice est une lettre amicale. Pour étudier le format de cette lettre, je vous conseille d’utiliser le document “Paper 2 OSC”. Allez à la page 33 du document, intitulée “The informal letter”. N’oubliez pas que votre lettre doit avoir entre 250 et 400 mots.

Vous soumettrez votre travail mercredi 20 janvier.

Grade 6 – e-learning “J’aime, je n’aime pas”

Vous aimez la neige?

Today, due to “la neige”, you have been asked to stay home and work on your different subjects through our e-learning policy. For French, I would like you to use your online textbooks and practice some exercises on what we have learned so far in our unit “Faisons connaissance!”

Please log in to your online textbooks and go to Chapitre 1  and under the tab “Faisons connaissance !” you will scroll down to select the first “Grammaire supplémentaire” title. Click on “Go!” and complete exercises 1 and 2 by clicking on the link below each exercise entitled “Cahier électronique” . Once you have opened this new window, you can start typing your answers in it. Please provide answers in full sentences. Make sure you click on “Save” to save your work.

Once you have completed both exercises, go back to the tab “Grammaire supplémentaire” and click on it to scroll down this time to the 2nd “Grammaire supplémentaire” series of exercises. Do the same as above and complete exercises 3 to 5.

When you have completed all exercises, please post them on your blogs under a new title, “Grammaire supplémentaire”. To post them, you can go back to your saved work and copy and paste your answers, which should be in full sentences.
