Welcome to MYP Technology!

Our grade 6 students have started exploring the exciting world of technology and design in our new MYP Technology class. Focusing on information technology, this class will provide an opportunity for students to use a variety of creative tools (from Apple’s iLife to Web 2.0 tools to the Adobe Suite) to express their ideas, demonstrate their learning and reflect on their academic growth.

We will follow the MYP Technology Design Cycle as we create fun and interactive technology projects.

MYP Technology Design Cycle

The Technology Design Cycle provides a clear framework for the process that we all go through when creating a technology product. In the Investigate stage, students research and explore new tools and brainstorm ideas. In the Plan stage, students design, draft and imagine their finished product and the steps it will take to get there. In the Create stage, students actually create a final product. The Evaluate stage is where students reflect on what they’ve learned and how they could improve their skills, process and product in
the future.

Our first major project is entitled Becoming a Blogger! Students will use our school blogging platform, The Learning Hub, to create their own individual blog, which will become an electronic portfolio of their learning during their time at YIS. This blog will provide the foundation for learning about the ways in which we can use technology to collaborate, connect, learn, share and grow. Another critical component of this project will be learning about digital citizenship – how to behave online, what’s appropriate to share (and what’s not), how to stay safe, and how to use these exciting technology tools to support learning.

To find out more about this exciting new class, please subscribe to this blog for updates. You can also see all of the student blogs (please keep in mind that they’re a work in progress) linked on the MS Tech blog. The 6th graders are super excited about creating their own blogs, please ask them about their work! They love to share!
