FIRST UNIT
“Where Are We In Place and Time”

Our first unit of inquiry this year was “Where We Are In Place and Time”. In music we were discovering how the recording device developed over time and how it has influenced how we listen and enjoy music. Students were asked to make a timeline that presents the important recording devices such as Edison’s gramophone to the current computer recorder. Students used an online application called Dipity to create the timelines. Here is some of their Dipity timelines.

UNIT TWO
“Who We Are”
In our second unit we investigated the land down under and discovered some interesting facts about the Indigenous Peoples of Australia with our guest Mr. Peter Scully. He is from Australia and was visiting our school. He brought his Didgeridoo with him as well and let students discover how difficult it is to play.
Students then composed an original composition as an audio representation of “Who They Are”. Come back soon to hear some of the songs created by grade 5.
Listen to some of the student compositions below. Enjoy the Music!
