In 9th grade the musicians choose music as an elective so we have a lot more time to dig into deeper concepts of music.
We begin the year with a look a jazz and improvisation; especially the harmonic structures that build the idiom.
We then dive into the western art music’s approach to form. Especially the Sonata Allegro form.
The third unit looks at Afro-Cuban music and its origins. We will be dissecting its rhythms and groove.
The last unit of the year we delve into extended chords and expression elements of the romantic and impressionist era.
