The children have been very concerned about the food for the sleepover. This required problem-solving strategies. We decided to write down all our ideas for food and sort them into categories (mathematical data handling and sorting by attributes and writing). Once the food was categorized the children had to narrow down their ideas. Steak and mac and cheese were not possible because we don’t have an oven… so what would we eat?
- Homemade sandwiches and fruit in the park.
- Pizza for dinner.
- Popcorn for the movie.
- Sandwiches and cereal for breakfast.
The next organizational issue is how much food will we need? The children have begun to collect the data and will then make a shopping list. The children will go to the supermarket to buy the food next week.
