2013 TOK Language Presentation – Post #4

Thank you for your participation and respectful attention during TOK class today. Dr. McCarthy’s lecture provided many insights into the knowledge issues he encounters through his extensive work in Japanese to English translation.

If you would like to site any of the examples used or points he made during the lecture here is the citation information in MLA.

McCarthy, Paul. “Issues of Language and Translation.” Theory of Knowledge Course. ICJC. Yokohama International School, Yokohama, Japan. October 5, 2011. In Person.

Blog Post Question – (no more than 300 words) Citing some of the points made by Dr. McCarthy during his presentation today, how do you think language can influence knowledge. In your post make sure to address the counter point how knowledge can influence language, as well.

TOK Typhoon Day

Hello Grade 11 TOK students,

Since you have missed TOK class today, I did want to remind you of outstanding work which needs doing.  Please make sure you have found a newspaper article and commented on the KI in it.  This should be posted to your blog today.  Please also read the blog of one other student and comment specifically on the newspaper article and the KIs that student has discovered.  Use the “Understanding Knowledge Issues” handout provided in class and available on the Google Site to evaluate the KIs explored in the article submitted by another student.
