Spanish 8: Ir de compras en el mercado, 30 de Mayo, 2012

1. Oral activity: Prepare a short tour of an open-air market where arts and crafts are being sold.  Include the following expressions for your tour and the conversations with the salespeople:

  1. Hello. My name is…. We are in Puerto Rico.
  2. Today we are going to shop in an open-air market.
  3. In the market, many crafts are made by hand.
  4. If you want to buy cheap crafts, you can bargain for a lower price.
  5. If you happen to find something nice at a good price, then you got a good deal.
  6. Her is a man selling sculptures. This sculpture is unique. There is no other like it.
  7. These pieces of jewelry are unique. They are very delicate
  8. Excuse-me, can you let me have a look at those bracelets and this necklace?
  9. I would be happy to miss/sir.
  10. Could you tell me if they are hand made?
  11. Yes, they are. I made them myself. The bracelets are made of silver and the necklace is made of gold. They are nice, aren’t they?
  12. Yes, they are beautiful. Thanks for your help.
  13. You are welcome.
  14. Excuse-me sir, we would like to have a look at the paintings.
  15. Go ahead, miss. We are here to serve you.
  16. Thank you sir,

3. A day at the open-air market. Write a paragraph in the past about a visit to an open-air market where they sell arts and crafts. You can use the example in your booklet on page 8 or in your textbook online page 179. You will need to include irregular verbs in the preterit as well as regular ones.

Una artesanía que se identifica con Puerto Rico es la máscara. Los vejigantes aparecen por ejemplo en la celebración de Carnaval en Ponce.

1. One person is the salesperson and the other is a student shopping for school items.

2. The student needs to buy at least five items.

3. The student will need to

  • get the salesperson’s attention
  • tell what he/she wants
  • ask for the price
  • pay for the purchase
  • thank the salesperson
  • say goodbye

4. The salesperson should respond appropriately to the student’s greetings and inquiries.

5. Remember to use madame, monsieur or vous where appropriate.

6. You will need to use the demonstrative adjectives ce, cet, cette and ces and colors.

Here are some phrases you may want to use:

Student:

Alors, qu’est-ce qu’il me faut?

Il me faut aussi des cahiers pour les maths et le français.

Pardon, mademoiselle/monsieur/madame, vous avez des trousses, s’il vous plait?

Excusez-moi, monsieur/madame/mademoiselle.

Vous avez aussi des trousses rouges?

Cette calculatrice, c’est combien, madame/monsieur/mademoiselle?

J’aime mieux cette trousse-là.

Et ce sac-là?

Pas mal. Mais c’est cher.

Bien. Alors, cette trousse

Merci madame/mademoiselle/monsieur.

Salesperson:

Voilà des trousses.

Les trousses sont là , à côté des crayons.

Una casa increíble

 

Escribe un anuncio para vender una casa.

Di dónde está, cómo es, y qué cuartos y muebles tiene.

 

A. Use power point, keynote, voicethread, iMovie, prezi or any other program.

Your text should be accompanied by pictures.

You should have a least 10 slides and talk about all the rooms and the furniture in the house.

You will present your project in class and you will post it on your blog.

B. In your description you should use the verbs “ser”  and “estar” correctly.

C. You also need to use the prepositions

1.    delante de    2.    detrás de   3.    cerca  de   4.    lejos de    5.    encima de  

6.    debajo de    7.    dentro de     8.    en     9.    al lado de

D. Make sure to also use some ordinal numbers ( for the floors of the house)

Here are some sample sentences:

Modelo:

¡Casa bonita!

Está cerca del centro. Es grande y tiene cinco cuartos y cuatro baños. La escalera es muy bonita. Ya tiene muebles. En  la sala hay un sofá y dos sillones.

En la planta baja hay…..

En el primer piso hay….. Los cuartos son grandes y bonitos.

La cocina está al lado del comedor.

Spanish 7: La comida saludable o la comida rápida

In groups you will make a rap song or poem about healthy or fast-food. You can follow the example given in class, but you will need to make sure to use as much vocabulary from our unit on food as possible.

You should also make sure to use the stem-changing verbs such as “pedir”, “servir”,  “costar” or “almorzar”.

You will perform your rap song or present your poem as a group.

You will need to make sure that everyone is involved in the presentation.
