To Get or Not To Get…14 Free and Simple Digital Media Tools

Just wanted to share this link featuring 14 digital media tools and they’re free!  Has anyone tried any of these? Would appreciate hearing your feedback.

Note: I’m not in any way promoting the use of any or all of these. In fact, the plethora of different apps and tools are quite overwhelming for educators.

What should we look for when deciding to download apps whether it comes free or with a price tag?

Tiny Teach 2: Top Tips from our Tech Pilots

We had another great Tech Pilots session this morning! Here are the awesome Tiny Teach ideas from the team:

  • Alex’s Google Site to share all of his students Silk Road stories: a great way to collect and share tons of google docs – even if they are still in progress, because you can just embed the active google doc
  • Infographics are a great way to represent factual information visually. Visual.ly is a free software you can use to make these kinds of graphics. Hans Rosling does great motion graphics. People are talking about using infographics for resumes as well, re.vu is one tool you can use to import your LinkedIn account. 10 Creative Social Media Resumes
  • Exciting new updates from Apple this week.
  • Great news about Google Drive, and adding documents to multiple folders (thanks Alex!)

Summer reading anyone?

Came across this great link that I’ve shared with my classes (and told them to share with their parents):

http://teach.com/great-educational-resources/summer-reading-flowchart

If there’s time, I’d like the students to create their own flowcharts and publish them on their blogs.

This could be adapted for other subject areas for different grade levels. Perhaps also useful for IDUs as we move to MYP?

4 Ways To Supercharge IT Training

I believe the IT training started before the CLC roll-out hits most of the points mentioned in this link. However, it’s always helpful to be reminded once in a while…what do you think of the last point’s comment on e-learning?

Thinking we should design something similar (or just update this) for a #techpilots project: 21Things: http://t.co/VrMT2COW

Tiny Teach – Show Me

During Tiny Teach at the Tech Pilots workshop, I did a ‘show and tell’ of an App called ‘Coach’s Eye’. It was received with a good level of interest by teachers not necessarily in the field of Physical Education or the subjects with a high level of movement… it’s clear that it can be used for inquiry, reflection and recording in a whole range of subjects.

Further to this, a colleague recently put me on to this App…

‘Show Me’ allows a teacher to take a photo or screen shot of anything and then draw all over it and record voice also. Kinda like ‘Coaches Eye’ but more for still shots like a students piece of work or photo that they took. I wonder if students could edit their own poetry and record the process or reflect on a piece of art work?
I like it and am already using it to record ‘process’.
