Class 3W @ YIS

Typhoon Number 4 and last full day

Dear parents,

Just in case you’re reading this, I have added an updated class telephone chain list Emergency Telephone Chain 3W @ June 2012

and a paper copy has gone home with your child today.

By the way, we watched 2 great TV ads in class, that had their own message. Both were good – ask your child, but my favourite one was this one

YIS student volunteers needed on Saturday June 16th

Please read this SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT from Mr. Jones:
Team of Grade 3-5 Student volunteers needed for special Kizuna Connection event on afternoon of Saturday 16th June.
A small team of volunteer YIS students are needed to help with a special Kizuna Connection art activity event for local elementary school students, starring spectacular local mural artist ROCCO.

During the event, will be making individual gift bags and large canvas murals to donate to elementary schools in Ishinomaki and Higashi Matsushima in the Tohoku disaster zone.
It will be a fun creative event, but you will also have the chance to do something for your community.

The participants will be local Japanese elementary school students, so if you can speak Japanese it is great, but you do not need to be a Japanese speaker to volunteer- the participants want to practice their English too!

Interested? Places are limited, so please contact Eddy Jones ASAP for more details, and by Thursday 14th June at the latest.

Field Trip to Mitsubishi Minatomirai Industrial Museum – June 15th

Dear all,

Your child should have brought home a letter with a permission slip for you to sign, tear off and send back to school. It has also been emailed to you.

A spare copy can also be found here if you should need it:  Parent letter FIELD TRIP – G3 MMIM + Picnic Day (June 2012)

We are asking for 3 parents per class (6 in all) who can come and help supervise a group of children for the day. If you would like to be one of those, please indicate your wish on the permission slip.

Many thanks and happy weekend everyone

Solar Eclipse information for Monday 21st May

A reminder that there will be an eclipse this coming Monday visible across Japan – in Yokohama from 7:30 a.m. to 7:36a.m. is the peak

We have put together a lesson plan and some brief information for today or tomorrow that you are welcome to borrow, though we only have some limited equipment.

Please make sure to reinforce that this eclipse is not a total eclipse and at not time will it be safe to look directly at the sun.

This video from NASA seemed accessible and well made, though you should note that they are on the other side of the date line.

Sports Day – updated information for Friday May 4th

Dear 3W parents – please find information about the upcoming Sports Day this Friday 4th May from our YIS PE team

Hello All,

As the anticipation for Sports Day builds, I wanted to give you all a little more information.

I have had a number of students and teachers ask about where to meet and what to do if it rains. All students will be expected to meet at YCAC, no students will be coming to YIS. The K-2 students will need to be at YCAC at 8:15, after the event the students are expected to go home. The 3-5 students will meet at YCAC at 12:15. If there is heavy rain, there will be a call made to the homeroom teachers and the class phone chain will be activated. There will also be a message on the YIS homepage. Attendance will be taken by Yukiko at YCAC.

Please remind students to bring the following items,

-Team color t-shirt
-Water bottle
-Small Snack (the 3-5 students should eat lunch before coming to YCAC)
-Hat/Jumper
-Athletic shoes
-Parents
-Olympic Spirit
Thank you for all the excitement you are generating for Sports Day! If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
